A red table lamp, a few round points of light on the wall, and an arched doorway framed by warm lighting. In the Saigon Pearl Topaz apartment in Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City, the living room takes on a very distinctive intimacy when the lights turn on.

The apartment was designed for two people and five cats. The homeowners' color preferences served as the starting point, but functionality remains essential: seating, belongings, storage systems, and walkways all belong to the same living space. Personality, therefore, must exist alongside everyday convenience.

A room nook for the evening

In the living room visuals, light focuses on individual small corners. A table lamp sits near the seating; circular light fixtures break the flatness of the wall behind; a pool of light beside the arched doorway links this corner with the adjacent space. Interspersed are shadowed areas, drawing the eye toward artwork and furniture pieces.

Using multiple small light sources delivers a more intimate feel than a room evenly illuminated from the ceiling. The lamp isn't merely aesthetically pleasing when turned off. When switched on, it defines a seating nook and helps transform the entire atmosphere of the room.

Colors of the inhabitants

Saigon Pearl Topaz is guided by Contemporary Memphis and Postmodern Eclectic styles. Simply put, it is a blend of bold colors, geometric shapes, and characterful furniture, without forcing every detail into uniformity. The red hue of the lamp, the curved lines, and uniquely shaped pieces create a visual dialogue across different corners of the room.

Warm lighting shifts the colors into deeper, calmer tones in the evening. The colors remain, but the ambience is distinct from a daylight-filled room. This detail demonstrates why the color palette and lighting scheme should be developed in tandem: the same surface can evoke diverse emotions depending on how it is illuminated.

Making an apartment truly feel like home

For a 90 m² apartment housing numerous belongings and several small furry members, practicality must be resolved right through spatial planning. A statement piece still needs to be in the right place. An attractive seating nook still requires space to set down a cup, grab a book, and walk past comfortably. These considerations do not diminish the home's personality; they allow that personality to endure throughout long-term daily life.

This also reflects KOW NIA's approach to apartment interior design in Ho Chi Minh City. The design concept originates from the residents and their daily routines before developing into colors, materials, and lighting. At Saigon Pearl Topaz, an evening in the living room clearly embodies that spirit: there are pieces worth admiring, yet it remains a room meant for sitting down and truly living in.
